    Although the covid measures were eased yesterday I still felt the urge to track down some fettling projects for the coming weeks. See below this weeks finds:

    Vapalux M1 (I think) with no other markings but:
    "VAPALUX"
    WILLIS BATES
    MADE IN HALIFAX ENGLAND

    A very special Tilley X-246 with customizations. Metal label to inform the user only to use paraffin and two clips to secure the hood. I've seen one like this before in the reference gallery by Mike @M.Meijer so his lamp is not a one-off.

    And a sixties Petromax 828 with lovely patina.

    Cant wait to get started.

    I don't think it ever was - mine should be in there, too. So that's at least three now...

    Hi David. Thanks for letting me know. Are there more insights about these mods or should we go with the theory of Mike that these were tailored for the Dutch Civil Protection?

    Great lamp David! Thanks for sharing. It looks to be in very good condition. At least al lot better than mine. I believe I have a durasil globe laying around. All I need to find is a better hood, preferably one with a single flared rim.

    That M1 is a bit unusual as well with the large filler cap( which was apparently only used on the very early ones) and that collar stamp that you usually see on UK military lanterns- but they also have the "21C" stores no., broad arrow and date on the other side. @Pancholoco1911 posted a similar one recently and we did speculate about it perhaps being ex-IDF...

    The better news is that I've actually found it - on the shelves in my back bedroom! :D/

    Well, I can see it - just can't get to it at the moment. I'll start the clear-out tomorrow - honest... :oops:

    @steerpike451

    Does it look to you as though the hood enamel is the same colour as the base? Unless it just been painted, I don’t recall ever seeing olive drab enamel. @Emiel is this the case?

    Edit: Never mind I’ve just seen the other post about removing the paint.:lol:
