Yes, I’ve posted a few pictures of that before. Didn’t quite realise the extent of the collection in that boat shed though. That has to be the largest collection in the world, surely no one has more than that.

It looks as though a lot of those are Petromax or some clone of, does anyone know where they’ve all come from? I’d imagine it’s army surplus and they’ve just had the lot. Almost like all the M320s our military sold off if someone had bought the lot and hung them up together.

 

The recent thread by @Kawpan has demonstrated the variety and survival rate of indoor lighting in some countries.
I recall visiting Thailand in the eighties and being in a house lit by hanging lamps. I have to add, this was long before I had an interest!

 

That's an amazing place but as I look at the video, part of me is sad as those wonderful lanterns will probably never do what they were meant to do - provide light and pleasure. It's good that they're preserved though.

That’s Yusuksuwan Museum and They open more than 13 years. They have lamp more than 10,000 lamps. In our country we have many collector. We have lantern meeting every year. We have a lot of lamp and some lamp are special order such painting/writing our language on reflector and is popular for collectors in our country. It’s more expensive when compared with the same model without Thai language and some model I think maybe manufactured from Germany for sold only in our country. This’s call “LONDON no.205 : 600CP” Pressure lamp. If you look the brochure at I marked. It’s timing hourglass when you preheating alcohol and turn on lighting.

When I worked and lived in Thailand several years ago I wish I had know abut this place as I would have gone to see that lot for sure.

I love the fact its all on display, unlike the collectors all over the world who have collections hidden away in sheds that no one has the chance to see... Perhaps we should have a rule saying that as collectors its your duty to at least have some photographs of your stuff in a virtual museum somewhere on the internet!

Wouldn't that be a thing!

There is a virtual lamp museum. But even virtual musea don't last long. Meanwhile it is closed.

Looking at my own website: it takes time, which isn't the biggest issue but people also don't respect your property/work. So they come , steel your pictures and do whatever they want to do with it.
But never it is to share information !
They even use(d) my avatar on a far east forum. I made it, why steeling it ?

I guess that's the gallery function, but a more public friendly site, with videos etc would be so cool. I guess you are right Wim it would be abused and misused.

 

Well the idea is the same but if you look at the Virtual museum from Uli Beck, you see an identical layout, pictures sharp and with neutral background etc etc.
That is somewhat different too collecting pictures from everybody and place them on a site.

 

What's even more fascinating than the actual lamps on display is the fact that everybody seems to know which lamp/lantern belongs to whom!
