Hello! I am looking for Primus document/catalog for Primus 1003. Can not find it in any document on the reference page.I think all known 1003 are marked W (1932) (I found a small notice with a picture under Primus / advertising but that's all) Has anyone found it in any catalog or advertisement and want to share it?
The only catalogue I have seen where it is listed is a 1932 French catalogue. I have only seen them from 1932 myself, but I expect they were made from 1931 to 1933. The 1021 is listed in a 1934 catalogue, so it was certainly replaced by then. I have seen the 1012 heater from 1931 and they use the same tank as the 1003, so I am sure the 1003 can also be found from that year.
I managed to find one yesterday. Looked around the net and saw an ad with used outboards. spilled the coffee I had in my hand! This is the seventh known 1003 among collectors in Sweden? the other six are marked W. Have not received the lamp yet, have not seen the date stamp. The lamp appears to be in good condition. Now I have to look for a 1001 with the right top
That lantern would light up for ages. You'd need a poultry hen house to match up. Old Primus documents could hardly be found in my part of the World. I guess you might them in one of A/B B.A. Horjth & Co.'s catalogues or adverts. I don't know if these are available on the Web at all.
Thank you all,yes I admit I was really lucky. The lamp was not really for sale but happened to end up in the picture and I managed to see it. Here is the only info I found. the tank takes 3.4L of kerosene. 20 hours of operating time is not bad. Now I walk on needles and wait for the lamp to land.
It came today, some quick pictures before I had to go to work. It is dated W14 like the others. seems to be really nice under the dirt,no dents.
Now it has been broken down into molecules and returned. Everything looked ok except the cleaning rod which is made of steel and had rusted. But otherwise in really good condition for a 90-year-old.
Bench polishing machine with different polishing discs and waxes. And hand polishing with cloth of course. there are usually good guides in car circles what to buy. Unfortunately I only have a PDF in Swedish.
Money shot! Now the 1003 is complete. Found matching top and original glass. Had to change needle cleaning rod and gaskets.
Pictures like that should be banned. I get too jealous. Seriously, that is unbelievably nice. You should be very pleased with it.
Really nice work and pics there, @Krisse ! ..Phew! You should seriously think about some shots for the reference library?
Thanks for the nice comments! Yes I am very happy with the lamp and understand what luck I had who found it. Also in the condition it was in. I can take a few more pictures of details if you want it in the reference gallery?
A splendid old lamp! This link shows a 1934 advert for it. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/1934-primus-advert.872/
Yes, it should definitely go in the reference gallery. Lots of pictures of the details are always good.
So it was marketed as a poultry lamp, then?... I know from experience that hen droppings give off a lot of Ammonia, which in my humble opinion would have caused significant ageing to the plated finish, which hasn't happened here?... Doesn't look like it ever made it to the hen-house ... Hoorah!!!
This comes from a boathouse, they were also used by fishermen to mark their salmon traps at night. But it does not appear to have been used much on the water.
Interesting history regarding the Salmon fishing... You would certainly need such a long burning lantern for that sort of job
What beautifull photography, Krisse! This is what makes the Reference Gallery such a joy to (re-)visit. Thank you!
