I think after reading other threads and looking at the gallery it’s an X246B but I’m only a couple of months into this journey so not really too sure.

Yes, it's an X-246-B and the date code means March 1967.

Thanks Jeff. I thought that but most things I read said that the NRV seal on X246Bs was different and didn’t sit in a cup. This one does and that’s what I wasn’t sure about

Someone will have just swopped it for the earlier (better) version...

It's easy enough to tell the difference between the X246, a and B series:-
X246 has four straight legs coming from the tank (either pork-pie or dome) standing vertically like Guardsmen.
X246A has four cranked legs coming from the tank.
X246B has four cranked legs coming from a disc attached to a circular plate on the top of the tank held in place by a centre nut under the control cock.

Ah thanks David. For future reference would the spring be the same one if the seal arrangement was swapped?

Good question! - I'd have to go and have a look but I've none to hand at the moment. Without doing that, my best guess would be that the springs are different.

I'm pretty sure I have an X246b with an NRV that has a cup for the 'pip' but doesn't have the locating stalk/stem that sticks through the end??
