Of late I have heard and saw information on the muzzling of cats ...I read the below mentioned recently published article . Decline of wildlife etc in the UK .... also very recently Listening to Manx Radio ,, I heard that Tynwald , IOM Govt are constructively reviewing this proposal . as cats hunt and kill wildlife it is in the cats nature ... debate pros and cons .. hey its not too far away. I think that more birds die in the egg by a tractor running over them then cats eating wild life. Bees are killed by insecticides, eaten before dead, by birds, who lay infected eggs in which baby birds die. So should we start ban tractors ? It is typical that these debates always starts when city people start going into the "wild life' when the weather starts to clear up. They simply forget the damage they do to the same forest, wild life (dogs running around) etc. As long as children can kill children with a, legal obtained, gun, my idea is that we focus on the wrong issues.
i think the UKIP member should be muzzled..... When I bought my previous house in the Highlands it had been unoccupied for six months. The mice had moved in and the place was infested with the little blighters. The kitchen work surfaces had to be disinfected every morning and soft packaged foods kept in hard storage containers. Once we introduced a old rescue cat to the house, the mice vanished. Rural living without a cat means that rodents will move in....
There is a thing on the bbc online news about cows in NZ being taxed for emissions? Might be worth a read? I haven’t checked the dates but we are past a certain date in April ..
It is another one of those "urban myths" that livestock creates so much methane etc. They do, but not at the levels being claimed. So anyway this will make NZ non-competitive on met and dairy so reduce the income of NZ. I am led to believe that lots of Kiwis are moving to Oz to make a living already. I wonder what the carbon footprint of that commuting is when compred to the cow gas ? The rush to "fix the planet" is being done badly - and of course fuelling lots of parliamentarian CVs on the way...

Just curious how do cats kill bats? They (the bats) hang upside down in places a cat normally doesn't go, they don't wander around like a pigeonon the lawn, nor hop around and don't sit in trees on branches.
.. it’s widely known so I may as well tell you.. Cats can see in the dark.. they’re not as blind as a bat..
I live on a farm and I’m constantly amazed by the number of city folk trying to enlighten us farmers, many multigenerational, how to look after the land. These urban warriors forget that most, if not all farmers, rely on good land management practices to be sustainable and to be able to support their families. As these urban warriors agitate, from their concrete jungles, for a better world it’s quite often at the expense of the rural community that ultimately provides their food etc. Pete
Well Well .. here we have reported the culling of feral cats down under in Australia .. it is an extremely massive problem .. the cats are wiping out the native species ... makes an intresting read / view point .. also I recently viewed a YOU TUBE clip of a guy .. he looked a bit like Davy Crockett with a cat hat and paraphernalia ...he explains his work .. not for the squeamish though ... review . I’ve voluntarily given up having a cat due to living in a place with the last 200 breeding pairs of a species of parrot. Some friends have voluntarily bought cat cages for their yards, and in surrounding suburbs cats are banned from release outdoors. There is an active feral animal shooting program in the nearby nature reserve. Last year I was catching kittens dumped outside the nature reserve and was bitten. Cat bites are considered ‘dirty’ so it was off to the GP for antibiotics, tetanus shot, etc. - I hadn’t quite anticipated how many $ catching that little bu&&er was going to cost me!
You mean those mice or rabbits or cane frogs? I have read that you also have a problem with camels and kangaroos, down under. This wisdom is also dripped down to the low countries. But it still doesn't make cats enter the wall spaces or creep in caves or those special places a bat want to live in. And when not in the bat cave, they fly around or hang upside down, both not good areas for a cat. Or those cats are somewhat like the dartmoor cat or not the normal house cat. Be it wild or tame. For the record: we have bats and cats here in the garden. Not at the same time of day however.
@WimVe re : blind bats ; it was one of my better asides I think it’s not unknown for cats to catch bats.. presumably they watch then sit where a bat repeatedly flies (near a lamp where the moths congregate) then they hook them a lot of the problem is that the cat won’t discriminate between a rare bat and a more common one they are cunning.. they were filmed for a week with collar cameras for a week.. visiting all the neighbours hooses and scoffing other cats’ food and so on.. using neighbours’ wifi etc cats wiping out other species is slightly different as cats were unfortunately introduced to the antipodes :/
I live next to a railway line and we have been plagued with rats in the past, one of the not so nice neighbours moved and left their lovely little cat behind which i looked after for a few months until i could get her rehomed, she was absolutely useless at catching the buggers and never brought any presents home but my old Jack Russel, he was a terminator, i lost count of how many he savaged!
