Hi all this is my first post and i need some help trying to solve this issue thats been bugging me. I have attached 2 photos, can someone please tell me why both powerhouses are in a different box with different lumens. Both are twin mantles, both are powerhouse lanterns, but one is 800 lumens the other is 1107, how can this be when both are the same (Powerhouse twin mantles) ? Both are duel fuel.

Why the 2 different boxes & they are the same price, dose not make sense.

    Kind Regards
    Darren

    Are the two lanterns identical?
If so, it seems that Coleman have kindly provided you with proof that they lie.

maybe some one found out that no one ever counted 1107 Lumens but some other person may have done a calculation on fuel consumption, mantle sizes and formula and his calculations resulted in exactly 1107 Lumens. May be an other person took a photometer and measured some Lumens and did not get even close to the 1107 ones stated on the old design box. So they decided to put on other digits on the new design box.

:-k I wouldn't lose any sleep over it - both figures will probably be incorrect anyway because they depend on a wide range of variables and what Coleman can achieve under ideal conditions, the average user won't be able to. If one figure or the other is correct, it won't be in a few months/a couple of years time. Who knows what a lumen is anyway? - or what it looks like to the human eye. They're all different as well... 8]

Thanks guys for your input, i have not taken them out the box as i like to collect new and used lanterns. But i did notice on one box it says (Premium PowerHouse Lantern) the other box says (PowerHouse Lantern) no sleep loss, just intrigued thats all. But both photos on the box look the same just different stickers.

You might be rite, Coleman had to change the box due to incorrect advertising & cut it back from 1107 lumens to 800, who the hell knows.

I will email Coleman to ask why as it baffles me. I’m one who needs to know s it will ug me lol

I just picked up to recently manufactured Coleman 285 lanterns, one part number was 800 lumen, 2 were 861 lumen, all with different SKU's. The newest version is only rated at 700 lumen.

Whatever their output they are very bright.

1107 seems to be a stretch when they all use the same generator and mantles.

I just checked the 3 different boxes for my Northstars, 1 was 1138, 1 says Bright, the third 360CP, newest version up to 800 lumen.

It's not just to do with the amount of light - for me, it's the quality i.e. usability of the light that's more important. Putting a translucent shade on any pressure lamp brings an instant transformation making it far more usable indoors or at a social gathering for instance. Other uses may require no shade but a reflector to keep the direct light out of the eyes is always good...

If the light is white I'm happy, yellowy/orangish not so much. I agree with @David Shouksmith. For me frosted globes are helpful on lanterns that can't be adjusted down. It's hard to play cards when all you see are white spots.

It was only out of Curiosity that i could not understand why or how what appears to be the same light is in a different box with a totaly different light output. I’m not using this light as I collect new lights that i store pack away, and buy used lights as well to use.

I’m not calling Coleman a liar im just intrigued why a newer light has less light out put and is boxed different. Compared to an older light where the box looks a lot newer even though its older and is a lot nicer box with way more light out put.

Seems like we’re going backwards if this is the case.

To a collector this gives one more options to add to his or her collection.

I cant tell by the pictures, but I think the larger lumen lantern is a 295, and the other is a 285 model. The jet orifice one the 295 is larger, and should give more light.

The 285 would be an Unleaded2.
But both cardboxes are printed Powerhouse. Which is the 295.

So question what do you all use and recommend to lube the rubber plunger or pump seal ? Im after something that dose not dry it out or block the check valve after time. As some lube jams up the check valve.

So what dose everyone use and how often would you lube the pump seal ?

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this forum.

I have the Coleman PREMIUM PowerHouse it is 295 and it has supposedly 1107 lumens. The 800 lumens is the Coleman PowerHouse is not PREMIUM and I think it is the 285.

My lamp has a very bright almost white light because I DO NOT USE Coleman mantles.

I hope my experience is useful. I really like this forum.

    Hi Darren,

What all have missed so far is that lanterns operated Down Under are of course upside down thus providing a different lumen number.....

    Kindly,

I just use transmission oil, and when the rubber inevitably splits I put a leather cup on and again use trans oil
    Cheers
