Tried my 222b tonight filled it half way up the tank and gave it 12 pumps held pressure as i installed new cap. Went to fire it up and it fired up and mantle started to glow but a flame was coming along with it. I turned it up high mantle still glowing good but still a three to four inch flame, same on low. Let it burn for five minutes didn't level off to just a glowing mantle.. Gave it another 12 pumps flame just got bigger. Any idea whats up?
If you are lucky could there be something blocking the air inlet tube? If you are not lucky then it could be the generator. If the jet is enlarged and delivering too much fuel it will flame as you describe. Depending on the type of Coleman generator, some are made in one piece and have to be totally replaced. On others the jet is removable - it unscrews from the top. Here again you might get lucky. If it is one of that type it could be leaking from the joint and in fact it only needs tightening to stop the leak.
