New arrival from Germany, contained within this superb box are two unfired Geniol 250HK lanterns with Petromax branded pump handles. It came with two full boxs of unused candles and two candle lanterns in canvas bags. Parts kit for the lanterns is intact but I'm guessing some thing is missing from the original box contents. A fuel tank maybe.... Here is an example of one of the little lanterns. More detailed pictures of all to follow once enough time is on hand.
Yes these boxes are nice. Not rare but just heavy and more difficult to ship. Looks like a modern alter version. What does the date stamp say ? Do you have the booklets too ? There should be glass, matches, bottle of alcohol and fuel be there. Now you can go for the Petromax set, the Schatz Hasag hospital set, the Meinrad Aschwanden hospital set, and the holy grail the army harmony set or railway boxes.... The Swiss had amazing boxes.
If I recall i think the box is dated the 11 of March 1989 and the canvas bags 1988. As regards contents... Glass - Yes, Matches, alcohol and Fuel- No. Ill try and track these down to complete the set. The box is extremely well made, nothing spared. Will get detailed photos up of it if needed.
If you like the new boxes wait until yuo find the old ones: Only odd thing is the metall angle to hold the canister at the left side of the box. Since movement will let the metall "eat" into this tank. While wood would not. Now a days these are almost impossible to find against reasonable prices.
Price was reasonable considering the contents and condition. The shades are immaculate as are the lanterns. Box is a bit rough around the edges but arent we all after 30 years. The HASAG set looks great, @WimVe . @paul m , yes I have two candle lanterns in the canvas bags along with two boxs of 8 candles.
Check and check again how the lanterns are folded most of them have ruined mica due to wrong folding.
I like to use the folding (candle)lanterns, but it took me a while to find the perfect method of folding them. I can now do it in the dark. I have no idea if there is a sort of "how to do it" to be found online. It's been a while since I bought mine (2 sets that had been used, and 2 new ones) but they seemed to go up in price every time I looked for them! Same with the spare candles. But they are handy little gems! Best regards, Wim
Yes Sweden knows a thing or two about candles. Can't recall a bad one. Wick size and wax diameter perfectly matched for perfect burn. Wick is woven with a set so that the end burns to the side of the flame and so stays the perfect length. Maintenance free unlike many other types which show various misbehaviours. Sorry for off topic!
Wow, Ive never seen anything like those boxed set of lanterns. They look awesome. Did anyone or any organisations in Australia do something like this? Cheers Pete
