I have just had a fun day fettling this rare beast. All pretty straightforward as with any tilley lamp, but i did spend quite a bit of time straightening the top part of the handle. This was probably due to the elephant in the room which was a previous owners repair of where the handle meets the tank. If anyone has a cut away picture of this assembly that would be handy, but today's mission was getting it running. Overall i am quite chuffed with it, and managed to put some handy spares to good use. At some point i would like to change the burner to a more period correct 1930's long type, i have one that i just need to 'charm' out of the hood it currently lives in. Enjoy the pics, James
You have to shake a lot of trees before one of these falls out. They are really not at all common so this is a very good find. ::Neil::
Rare, indeed! Rare as hen's teeth! I got one several years ago from a fellow in England. Never thought I would be that lucky! Like Neil said, "you have to shake a lot of trees".... If I can ever get the hang of posting pictures I'll post my PL55. Great job, James!
Nice lamp, interesting to see it with a cock normally seen on the BR49 to allow the paraffin pre-heater to be fitted. Light and enjoy
