Picked up a Tilley AL 21 type 3 I believe Inspection lamp on a road trip here in the USA. I see Basecamp carries the #190 mantle. How many in a package? Will any other make fit and its number? Preheat this, do you open the front and clip a torch/butterfly clip on the vaporizer? Thank you guys. Duane
The burner on the AL 21 lamps has a smaller diameter than the standard Tilley lantern burner, that is also the case for the AL 11 and the FL 6 and the AL 15 burners. If you obtain double tie mantles which are untied then they will fit any Tilley lamp burner, try an Ebay search for Tilley mantles. Some of those cheap double tie mantles which are listed on Ebay are of poor quality, the strings are weak too. There is usually only one mantle in each Tilley packet. You have got the pre heating method correct.

Thank you guys, hate to tinker much if I can't get a mantle. New pip from my kit for my bowlfire and got it going as the pump wanted to rise after a little pressure. Thought the light would project out further, but not designed for that I guess. Duane
Nice looking lamp. These are floodlights rather than spotlights so you don't get a tight projecting beam. They were designed as work lamps and for close inspection not for distance viewing. ::Neil::
Fuel was a little dirty, rinsed the tank a few times, maybe it will be brighter with clean fuel. Figured after running it was designed for closer quarters, not for distance. Duane

Duane, I don't know where you live in the US but it can't be in my neck of the woods! Chances of finding a simple X246 around here is like hitting the lottery! The only ones I find are the ones in my garage!
