Why does a lamp with 2000 cp only use a 300 cp mantle?

The Tilley AL 21 I found in a shop a couple weeks has 2000 cp per specs I found. Why does it only use a 300 cp mantle? Found a second source for 190 mantles in NZ.

That cp., rating is for reflected candle power and the light output depends on the condition of the reflector and the vapouriser and burner etc..

Good job, Jeff! People are confused at this c.p. rating sh.. but this is exactly what collectors/interested parties need to know. Big difference between "lantern out put" and "reflected output". Especially on these lanterns referred to as "searchlights".
    Hickerduane, good question!

I did see that in my research, but thought it translated to a spotlight type beam and not knowing it was more a inspection light.
I do need to clean the reflector and try clean fuel. Thank you.

I’m very cautious with the reflectors on these lights.

I first clean them with an automobile spray upholstery cleaner, then, if there is still black soot adhering to the reflector, I use some engine degreaser on that area only. Sometimes you have to accept some parts of the reflector are scorched irreparably.

    Soft cloth only...

    Cheers

Actually these are 250cp burners not 300 which is why the correct mantle is slightly smaller than the standard Tilley 164x. Clean fuel never hurts but light output is more to do with the age of the burner and condition of the vaporiser. Both wear out with lots of use. ::Neil::

Not bad inside, but could use some cleaning. Lense same shape.

Cleaned the reflector, cleaned easily, but in handling the burner bits, touched the mantle on the back side, plus it developed a hole in another spot. Soaking the burner parts in hot vinegar now, will have to place a order for proper mantles, just wish they were listed on the bay.

Thanks to @JEFF JOHNSON, located some mantles that he said would work. Got a invoice today from the bay seller.
