Can someone please tell me dose the VL1 Tank supposed to have a shallow rounded dip in the top of the tank or has this been dropped ? It looks perfectly round like it’s meant to be there but I’m not sure it’s ever so shallow like a crater see photos Also can someone please tell me what type of burner this is, its long with a flat top, and the arms look bent, dose this mean it needs to be replaced, the burner body looks ok but the arms are pointing down on quite a lean
I’ll leave the tank to someone else who has seen a VL. But that “flat top” burner mixing dome could be Kayen. The locking nuts on the air tubes are Tilley, though. As I said in another thread of yours, the burner tubes on these burners sometimes get to look like this if they’ve been used heavily. Tony Edit: I’m still pondering whether these domed insect shields are Kayen or Tilley.
I would say the tank has definitely been pushed in, shouldn’t look like that. And that is one ugly burner, wouldn’t let it near a VL! May be Kayen with that bug screen too. So what colour vase do you have Tony?
I was told that Tilley also brought out a domed insect shield on the older VL1, but to be honest im not sure. Also i have no vase just the tank, Is the original setup 169 vap, and gallery springs on the inside, and once again was told the dome insect shield. ?
Looking back at that burner, the long burner body looks Kayen as well. All the VL-specific questions are beyond my ken. Tony
@Kiwiboy00 Your VL1 tank is definitely pushed in. Here are a couple of images of my example, you'll notice the solder applied by a former owner to cure a leaking pressure tit - a feature which seems to missing from your example. Henry.
As Henry has already said and shown the top on yours is slightly dished in (I would try fitting a scrap or old vaporiser in, and gripping the vaporiser in a vice horizontally with wood or similar packing on jaws try holding the font and pulling gently but firmly in a straight line. (You may be able to remove the depression.) I think the very early Tilley products lacked the pressure tit, and early gallerys had internal springs, The earliest VL's we fitted with batwing Burners
@Kiwiboy00 Given the odd burner and the lack of pressure gauge, can you place some detailed photos of the VL in this thread? Especially soldered seams, pump etc. Also, could you look to see if every there was a pip, and inside to see if there is the bellows for the pressure guage? Best regards Tony
Hi Tony there is definitely no pressure tit, this tank dose not have one, also the hallow dip is perfectly rounded and even, with the stem perfectly straight. The tank itself has no dings or dents and is immaculate and even has the brass collar that slips up to the tank rim. Its in immaculate condition, the dip on top looks original, but i am not qualified to make that decision. Also i will probably end up selling off this along with half of dicks collection due to room.
