Hello, I just picked up this Butterfly lantern at a garage sale. It looks to never have been lit. The mantle has not been burned down yet and the globe is missing. Can someone help me identify which model this is, and if it is Kerosene or Alcohol? Thanks!
Definitely Kerosene / Paraffin, I've no idea of the model but very likely a full fat 500CP clone version of a Petromax. As its a Petromax clone the glass is also pretty generic and easily obtainable. Very interesting that it is missing any 'Rapid Start' system OR Spirit cup, you may have to make something up, a small metal screw top lid upturned so you can pre-heat the vaporiser (use methylated spirit for this).
@AHeist Welcome. You should be able to get a glass and spirit cup / alcohol tray from Britelyt – LIGHT. HEAT. COOK. Henry.
@AHeist I think it is best to get original parts for your Butterfly lantern from the US distributor, St. Paul Mercentile: Pressure Lantern and Parts : ST.PAUL MERCANTILE | Cool & Unusual Products Here is the web site for the manufacturer (Lea Hin Co. (PTE) Ltd.): Lea Hin Group, household appliances, kerosene stoves, pressure lanterns, oil tanks, burners, Butterfly Brand Because you do not have any quick lighter on your lantern it is a model 826 which is a 350CP lantern. Butterfly is only making 350CP lanterns nowadays. Michael
@AHeist Welcome to the forum. Your Butterfly is a nice lantern and as you pointed out in top condition. I look forward to seeing your progress. Regards Jeremy
@AHeist if your lantern doesn't burn right, adjust the paddle in the mixing tube by making sure the slot in the screwhead is vertical. Henry.
I have bought from www.hurricanelamps.co.uk They supply Petromax and Sea Anchor parts. Prices are reasonable.
Before you try anything at all: make sure you know how it functions and check all the seals, screw and joints. Common mistake, if it looks new all should work like new.
