Hi All Ive had a guess on the dating but not sure if its the later 50s as it had no code, It has the winged pump filler and the origanal davisal glass, it also has the later clips for the handle Anyway ive had a bit of trouble with it but with some help and advice from you guys i managed to make a decent picture of it running Here is the picture Is this light good? Also this is running on the 246B Hood Hope you like it Adam
Hi very nice indeed from the pics it is running perfect i am waiting on my one from ebay which is is in need of a good restoration,to be honest the 246 guardsman in my opinion is the best model made much better made than the 346B storm light of today and it looks much better
Thank you! Im very chuffed with this now! Need to find another burner now of course lol, Yeah they look and feel alot more rugged than the 264B Do i leave the origanal or strip it off and show off the brass?
Hi Adam it realy is your desion it is nice too keep it original as possible if the paint work is in bad condition then i would strip it and polish the tank but too keep it that way it will need to be polished from time to time or a coat of laqauer will preserve it but if the paint work is in good condition a lot of people would leave it as it is but i my self would like the look of a polished font than a sprayed metalic finish it is a hard desission
Ok i will do that, I was tempted to keep the paint in the first place, may just get a brassed up 246 in the future. Will try and clean this one up but what is the best substance to use? Thanks Adam
Hello Adam, in my opinion, as a collection grows, it's best not to have many lamps which need to be polished. For a working lantern that one looks clean enough to me, you may come across an unused one sometime and those are the ones to keep for display, Jeff
That would have to be the 346B storm light of tomorrow, Mr. O - Tilley haven't got round to making that one yet... BTW, any idea of the lottery numbers for this Saturday..?
Hi there Dave i never relised my mistake either i need to pay specsavers a visit or my fingers are getting bigger
I do like a Guardsman 8) , painted or shiney they're great & just as good as a Bialaddin when in good fettle . The X246b's burner will work well if the original one is badly worn & if i get time i'll see if i have a good original spare for Adam, ( PM me later if you want to chat ). Best regards Stu
So do I! (the lantern that is, before you all start to wonder about me!) The earlier the better i.e. the one with the handle attached to wire loops on the globe cage - not the one with the clip attacment for the handle. I like the pork-pies even more...
