Just got this, dated 9-36. Per one entry here in the gallery and info posted with it, the date is for a late 242K, but all the features don't match. Some features seem for a early 247, but not all. Fired right up after fettling. Thoughts, documentation? Plain collar, no wording, one slot not two for the valve, pricker. Wheel for the pricker lever, not the bent wire. Heavy brass priming cup w/notch for wick. No clip. Fine ribbed valve knob. Fuel pickup for the "K" and early 247, cant see if it is slant cut, unable to fully disassemble, not a F/A type. Genny tip has a 6, cloth innards. Duane
Thank you. No cut out either to light, just the lighting hole. Starts really bright, I think genny tip starts plugging after 10, 15 minutes and have to spin the pricker. What throws me is the wheel as the Coleman guys refer to it as. Duane
A wheel for the pricker rod/wire on 242 sounds like a mod. But it ain't a bad idea at all. In fact, I'd imagine that it'll work great, if not better than a plain bent wire.
This came with the wheel, I just added a wheel to my earlier "K" that took two members from the Coleman forum to make, had to add graphite packing to it as when a new pricker valve is made, the making of it destroys the original packing. Managed to add some and get it packed. A PITA to do. Duane
@hikerduane I have a similar 247 variant dated December 1935. I call it a 242K / 247 transitional piece, (that’s my name for it, it’s not an official name) It has the 242K pricker knob but the rest of it is 247. It appears that some of the earlier 247s were put together using left over 242K parts. Cheers Pete
Thank you Pete, have seen one other like ours. Like the early 247, has the heavy brass preheat cup, the wheel is the only thing making a "K". Duane
@hikerduane The frame needs a swing out door to be a 242k The fuel cap needs a hex-head The date is off Unmolested 242k lanterns have wicked globes too……. You’ve got a nice lantern but it’s definitely not a 242k ( IMO )
@Konabill, gave up thinking this was a "K", believe it to be just a early 247. Funny, had a aftermarket wheel made for the "K" I do have and this 247 came with an original wheel. Instead of swapping the original to the "K", left it on the 247 as you pretty much destroy or at the least do a number on it grabbing with Vise Grips to remove. @Jack95, no spare wheel, sorry. Don't know why the guy who made the wheels hasn't popped up over on CCF. I passed along a extra wheel I had to a guy over on CCF this summer. Duane
