Hello folks, I acquired a Unimet GL-1 some time back and it was missing a few parts. Part of the burner assembly was missing. The collar is from a Kamplite LRL 21B lantern and it's a fair match for the top. The glass was missing and also the handle. Fortunately I had the handle from another one of my Unimet lanterns. I found the top lug was loose so I soldered it which so far it's holding. It's a bit on the ugly side of things but it's holding. It's also fortunate that the collar hides all of the discoloration on top of the tank. The NRV needed to be rebuilt and the leather needed to soak in some oil for a day or two but it is now usable. Here it is back together. The action shots. I added a preheater cup because this lantern is more then scary to start up. I originally used a Coleman 21 mantle but then switched it out for an Egret ART. No. 4 mantle rated at 300-400 C.P. It's quite bright now. Unimet lanterns are a bit on the strange side because the filler cap has a pressure release valve and since this lantern runs on gasoline/petrol or Coleman fuel it's a very poor and dangerous idea. @Norman Well done on a very good fettle and it’s a nice looking lantern as well. I like your series of photos and the description of works, and of course the money shot. The pressure release on the filler cap would be a worry with the volatile gasoline type fuels, a definite safety hazard. Yet again, that is how she was and its now part of of this lamp’s history.
