I was in my local charity outlet and these came my way. Some of them will be made into pre-heater cups, the others will be kept for future projects.
@podbros wins the prize. It's a set of 10 napkin rings and the lady literally gave them to me as she didn't think anyone would want them! They'll be carefully split into two rings, a base will be added and a tube fixed in the middle. When that's done I will drill out the middle of the tube and clean everything up. I'll try to post some photos of the process.
Sure! I'll be in the workshop today or tomorrow. What's the diameter of the vaporiser.... same as the regular Tilley vapes?
Hi Colin, yes they have a standard 169 vapouriser. I’ll have a dig around, I think I might have some napkin rings somewhere, if I can find them, they’re yours! Thanks mate.
I had a very similar idea , I used a copper 28 mm copper pipe stop end ( come in various sizes i.e. 22 mm ) to create a preheater for a modified coleman lamp , I just drilled out the centre and soldered a a suitable ( oversize ) copper pipe to slip over the vapourizer tube , cut to size and hey ho ... a preheater cup for meths etc cost 90 pence plus my labour of course ... works great
I had a go at making a shallow but wide pre-heater but my gas torch is empty so I tried to use one of my stoves to create the heat. Disaster! It's completely uncontrolable and you'd need about 5 hands. Both times I tried I ended up 'burning' the brass and the joint fell to pieces! It'll work but I need more has!
