I picked this up at a garage sale awhile back. I can’t find another one like it anywhere on the internet. Only the 321B which is brown or green or the 321A which is blue. Is this lantern super rare or something? Does anyone else know of it?
Welcome from Queensland Australia @Justin143 I don't know of this one but I do like that blue colour. Cheers Pete
Thanks for the warm welcome, I’ll keep looking. Otherwise just waiting on some mantles then I’ll light it up
You show a 621B frame rest (collar) but your post title is about a 321B. I believe you have a common 621B.
2-77 is in the production period for 621A not 621B. No letter and A versions were blue and B and later brown. Seems to me some parts have been changed here and this is a hybrid of part A and B. ::Neil::
I can assure you parts have not been changed. You can also view this link Coleman Canada lanterns 1971 – 1993 to see the same lantern. I’ve also looked into old records and found that the blue 321B was produced but there weren’t as many made as the brown 321B
That's a larger 621B. It seems that month of 2-77 can be found on blue 621A, blue 621B, and brown 621B. I sometimes wonder if they were just using up spare unused parts from the end-of-production blue 621A and new parts from the parts bin for the 621B and just cobbled something together just to make a complete lantern. I've only ever seen one blue 621B in person but quite a few blue 621A and brown 621B. I've never heard of a blue 321B but a blue 331 did exist. The 331 is a smaller version of a 621. The 331's vent doesn't have the slots around the upper edges like yours does. In smaller blue models I've only ever heard of a 321 and 321A. I've only ever heard of a 321B being green. The 321C was also green. Both those green models are really common in Canada.
This is something I have seen from a number of other manufacturers as well, so I imagine it was common practice. From their point of view it was just common sense. Why throw out good parts when they can be used. Their customer was only interested in something that worked, not like us collectors that look into every small detail.
