Where can you get preheater wick material so you can make them yourself? I think they are made from fibreglass or kevlar, but I have only seen ready made versions on Fleabay, I want to make them myself any ideas where to buy a meter or so, at 1 inch or 2 inch widths for lamps and a bowlfire? I tried rolling up regular lamp wicks but they just burned up to a crisp.... I know the original ones were asbestos. The ones on fleabag seem to have brass rings on them I guess 22mm copper pipe fitting olives, they look good for display. Any ideas where to get the wick material?
Hi @plantpot You could try the Base-camp Stove and Lamp supplies? They are always very helpful and their web page is areal treasure-trove? www.base-camp.co.uk Hope that helps, Regards, pb
The wicks for that lantern are available on the bay of evil, also, if Base Camp doesn't have them. Tony
@plantpot. You could consider buying a fire blanket and cut it into strips. You'll have a lifetime supply of wick
Kevlar wick by the meter is available online, particularly from sites that supply kit for fire juggling and the like. Incidentally, the flat metal retaining band on those early Vapalux wicks is easy to slip off and reuse on the new one- soak the old wick with water to avoid dust.
