Hi, this is my 1st post on this forum. It all started a few months back when I unearthed from the garden, a cast iron tripod/pot plant stand that I'd found a couple of years earlier....in turn it led me to world of paraffin stoves which consequently then led me into the world of tilley lamps, its all become very addictive. I was given a 1911 primus stove and a x246b which to be honest I only took out of grace but cleaned it up and it looked ok but learnt through this forum about the risks of the dreaded blown bottom, so then I started reading and learning about the various lamps and manufacturers. Last week I bought this I think early..... somewhere between 1946/48??....bialaddin 300x on ebay. I have spent the last few days cleaning off the years worth of shed patina with 1200 , 1500, 2000 grit wet n dry and the ever reliable autosol....now in 2 minds whether to restore back to original or leave as is. Now I apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to post but I've made this storage box as well and am trying to gauge whether there would be any potential in making and selling a few, I've some lovely scrap mahogany in the shed just crying out to be used up.
Welcome from Queensland Australia. Well done on the fettle of the Bialladin. I do like the box for it too. Looking forward to the "money shot" (The lamp's first light after a fettle) Cheers Pete
Hi Duncan! Welcome to CPL! There is a Trading Post on the forum where items can be advertised or put as 'Wanted', so you could try there? Or you could make a few and bring 'em along to the annual CPL/CCS knees-up? Looks like you well and truly have the 'Bug' Best regards, pb p.s. i think i saw your thread on CCS... very interesting : )
Nice old Bialaddin. Maybe a tad later and up to around 1950 but still a much better made lamp than the Tilley X246B. I like the box as well although I can't get too excited over boxes in general because they don't run on paraffin. ::Neil::
Welcome to the group. Your lantern has come up a treat. Your box is very cool too. You have the bug. Together they complement each other. I have made boxes usually out of stained up plywood, i fettle a lantern make a box and give them away to friends and family. They are a gift that they can keep for generations. Thanks for sharing
