I've no idea what I've bought here. I foolishly thought they'd fit my two 320 builds I'm doing - needless to say they don't! !:oops:

I'm assuming they are for a much earlier domestic table or wall lamp, or some such similar??

:-k :-s :? Very strange - I've not heard of this in almost 20 years of collecting. I thought most Bialaddin and Vapalux parts were generally interchangeable. Maybe I've missed something obvious...

@David Shouksmith Lol Yes, I guess I'm missing something. I'm assuming taking the cage off would yield different results!?Would the longer control shaft fit through the bottom of the cage, or does it withdraw completely?? These rotate through 360 degress and dont appear to have a stop on the control switch at all - is that normal, or are they broken:-#!?!

The longer shafts are for those lanterns having a wide globe cage support collar. Otherwise, lanterns like the 320 without one use a jet cleaner with a shorter shaft. I'd have thought they should still screw into the tank, though. I'm sure, somewhere, I've got a very early lantern I fitted with a much later (about 50-60 years later!) NATO-style jet cleaner as a temporary measure just to get it running. That was around 10-12 years ago and it's still fitted!. But given the 320 has a different tank and a different arrangement for holding the upperparts to it, maybe they changed the sizes and threads as well.

Some jet cleaners have a knob that operates through a short arc (100-120 degrees at a guess) and others rotate completely round and round. I've no idea why but I find the continually rotating type easier to flick round past to operating point and my theory might be they were easier to use by squaddies wearing thick gloves. Just a theory based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, I might add...

I've got both types of control cocks and the ones you have there are for the older 300, 305 type lantern. The 315 and 320 (and maybe others) have shorter control stems. BTW I'm not making a distinction between Vapalux and Bialaddin as they are 'largely' the same.

*Keeps head down while waiting for lots of comments about how different they actually are.*

Actually, the one at the bottom is different from the rest. Just noticed that.

Yes, the one at the bottom has the removable fuel pick-up pipe. I presume these are earlier than the soldered-in type...

you will also find the pick up pipe is slightly longer on the 320 lanterns due to the shape of the 320 tank which is domed at the top
so if you tried to put a 320 one on an earlier shaped tank with the flatter top it would not screw all the way in without hitting the base of the tank

    @ColinG Ah yes, the 300 & 305 models.
I've not got one, don't know 'owt about them and I have to say I don't particularly like them relatively speaking - especially that wider globe tray thingy they have. Not my cuppa, so no wonder I boobed it here! The learning curve continues..

@David Shouksmith Thank you as always for the valuable information and input.

The One with the Removable Pick-Up Pipe were used a lot on the 315 models. If the knob were present and Red it would be easier to identify. just am opinion !
It has been a while since I posted here so I guess I would start up again

Ha, well they definitely won't fit around a 320 cage - I tried every which way but loose earlier! They do screw into the fount though, no problem. Also if these are any good to anybody let me know.

I know this is a long shot but I'll ask

@Muzzleflash Are these still available? Maybe we can swap for the right one, I have the shorter version on my Vapalux M1 and would like to get the right one.

If you're trying to fit with the cage fitted it won't turn round try removing the screws and turn both the cage and control cock at the same time, once tight, fit the screws....Paul

This ^^^^^^. But as it's a 320 you will need to slacken the big knurled nut in order to rotate the cage.
