My friend was cleaning out his barn and posted a film of stuff he didn’t want hanging in the barn. I said I’ll take the Coleman lantern sitting in the shadows. To my surprise it was this. The first pressure test found a worn seal in the filler cap. The fuel pressure test found the valve packing wanting. But, with a new gasket and clean valve packing, she lives. I don’t think she has seen the light for 40 years. Everything seems original including the globe. I’m a bit amazed.
I'm not a lantern collector so I don't have that many. I do have 10 or so AGM's of differing models with this model being my favourite. They are a tough looking and tough performing lamp. My model has a nickel fount. Congratulations on getting this lamp up and running.
I’m not a collector either. My fondness for these things comes from the use. Many good memories of family vacations tenting with the hiss of the gas lantern at night and stove in the mornings. They are fun to resurrect though.
I am over the moon for certain. I was able to show my son how these things work and when I told him how old it was, he lit up with wonder. Funny thing was, we have a Coleman electric lantern and the comparison was funny.
