This teardrop globe has an unusual finish. It does not have a maker's mark, but it is the same size as the Tilley teardrop 182 globe. The finish is best described as "dirty opal", as it is a grey-white colour with black streaks and spots. It has a seam indicating that is was moulded rather than blown. The bottom lip has been ground. Here, next to another clear, but unmarked teardrop shade from a Tilley Table Lamp. Has anyone seen this type of globe before? It came from the collection of Jim Dick. Cheers Tony
Thank you, Matthew. That globe on Kenny’s looks very much like mine. I did have an inkling that this globe may have been made in Australia, so I will do a bit more digging. Cheers Tony @Matthew92
I have several Vitreosil globes that show the black flecks and some are much whiter than others. A few are quite transparent like this one. What creates uncertainty is the mould lines and the 'texture'. Do the lines show on both sides and on the inside too Tony ?? This is the clearest globe I have and it shows the black flecks and the texture.
Looks like I've got 4, 5 and 8 off that list. Yes that pink fringed one is waiting for a matching Vl1.
@Anthony The line is deep and visible inside and out on both sides - like 2 halves sandwiched together. I’ll take photos of the line in the morning. Tony
It's because of those lines I can't believe this is a Vitreosil. What I would l would like to see is other Vitreosil globes with those lines. None of mine have any sign of lines. Do any of your other globes have mould lines Tony ? Do any of yours @Matthew92 ?
