This is a Kayen vapouriser Part No. 169, with needle Part No. 150. This is interchangeable with the Tilley 169 vapouriser. Note the 'diamond' knurling on the brass (Tilley has vertical straight knurling). Here next to a used Kayen vapouriser. Note the brass fitting is smaller on the NOS vapouriser than on the used vapouriser. Both vapourisers have a small round indentation on the brass from the lathe working. Cheers Tony
They came in very basic paper packets. Two different sizes but I think it was still only one per packet.
Thank you, @Anthony. It is interesting to note the spelling of "vapouriser". On your packets it is spelled as, "vaporiser". But in the 1946, 1949 and 1951 catalogues it is spelled in the full English manner, "vapouriser". Cheers Tony
Well spotted. I did not get that one. Could that indicate that they were sold at the same time and the larger packets did hold more than one vaporiser? No mention of Kopsen or Nettlefold either.
I have two NOS Kayen "vaporisers". The packet is similar to the top image, however there is some additional printing at the base. The type is in three lines. KAYEN LAMP DISTRIBUTORs T. S. NETTLEFORD & SONS PTY. LTD. 189 King Street, Melbourne. C.1 The price is 7/9 in pencil. First line of type is twice the size as the second line of type. Cheers Peter
@peterthevet I wonder if @Anthony ’s packet might be Kopsen, whereas yours is clearly Nettlefold. Tony
