I need help again!! Lol Do I need the pressure valve on the Tilley radiator to have it work properly?? I received the radiator with it missing and tried to light it without it and it didn’t work. I swapped the generator onto a lamp tank and it worked fine. If I do need it would anyone know where I could get one plz? Or if anyone has a spare I could swap for a Tilley table lamp tank and the bottom piece of the generator if that is allowed by the admins.. Thanks in advance for all your help..
Sorry Pete, I should’ve made the post a bit more clear.. Would I lose pressure through this?? I noticed in the link you sent there is a small brass screw( I thought was a pressure gauge?) that is missing on my tank.. Thanks..
I don't know what you mean by "pressure valve " but if you mean the thing on top of the tank that's the pressure indicator (AKA "pip" or "tit") and that's all that there is to it- there's a rod inside that rises up as you pump and when it's level the tank is at working pressure. If it's not working (they stick or leak sometimes) it shouldn't matter; the one on my own R1 looks like it's been hit with a centre punch but it still lights fine. ETA; sorry, was typing while you were posting- no nothing's missing, yes they can leak if they're damaged, it'll show if you dunk test the tank
Thanks for that, I thought I was losing pressure somewhere, I checked and cleaned the pricking rod( if that’s what it’s called lol) inside the generator and it was working fine.. the radiator hasn’t been fired up for a good few years so hopefully it’s lossened it up a bit I’ll put it back to the original tank and try again.. Thanks appreciate the help..
I don't want to come down on you like the safety police, but kero, kitchen paper and flames do not mix. I have done a few stupid things in my garage, like accidentally setting my garbage bin on fire and almost burning down the house. Make sure you have a clear area before you light up, and think about how you would react if things went a bit awry. Nice work on the heater, I have a couple of these and love using them, especially outside in the evenings with a beer or two
Thanks mate, safety first, I was working outside and the radiator was in a bbq just in case something did go wrong.. Thanks..
Lighting in the BBQ was a good idea. I have been carried away fettling several times and have my bench covered in acetone and carb cleaner. Then you reach over for the matches....
