Change to me anyway, I was gifted this rather tatty Veritas yesterday, and 4 - 5 hours hard toil later she don't look too bad. Missing her nipple on top and the hood is a bit scabby but fettling this Veritas Superb 350CP has been a refreshing change from Tilley's, Vapalux and the like. Nice attractive Shape I have to say! I had thought she was all steel as the hood , tray & base were on the rusting side but once stripped back the main body of the font is brass (steel base plate) and the vaporizer assembly also revealed itself to be brass. I ended up just lacquering the main body after stripping off the old tatty paint. I have had her lit for a few minutes but there is a weep I need to trace before lighting again. I have to confess to not knowing much about these so any info is much appreciated. Martin
@paparazi It certainly is a pretty lamp. Cleaned up well and looks the part. A Veritas is at the top of my list now, as you say, a change from Tilleys etc.
I like the 'rotund' demina echoed by the handle shape. The steel components are a weakness on any lamp and I suspect finding a good Veritas with age is going to be a mixed bag as I'm sure it is with similarly made Coleman's. Still, I like it.
@paparazi Well done on a very good fettle of a Veritas Superb. She looks like the grand lady she is. You’re fortunate to have the original glass globe, these are almost as rare as “hen’s teeth”. The date is usually stamped into the rim of the frames base, for example the following photo shows the date 255, representing February 1955. These lanterns are very good reliable runners providing years of faithful service. I’m looking forward to the “money shot”. Enjoy Cheers Pete

NRV is fine, new pump leather is on the tight side so creating a bit of suction on the way out. It'll loosen off. Martin
Aussie Pete, I notice yours has a spring around the main tube next to the spirit cup, what function does it serve. Mine had one but it was rusted away on one end so I removed it. Martin
@paparazi The spring is to secure the pan in position and further, to stop the priming pan from sliding up the tube when the lamp is tilted or inverted, and destroying the mantel. Cheers Pete

Looks pretty good to me and it has the original globe which are now getting pretty rare I believe. I'm sure you'll solve the weep and have her up and running in no time.
A neighbour (79 year old) used it for night fishing, last lit over 35 years ago. Cleaned washed out, stripped off what was left of the pain, lacquered, rebuilt and it lit at first spirit burn....who is saying these things don't light? I don't think I've ever lit anything as easy as this! still got my weep but I know what it is now lol... Martin
