I also got this lamp on the same day, and this is how she looked. So of course i had to fix this baby up as this is my first, 1st Version one short handle, i know this is not the colour that they Came out in, but you know what i like it , so i decided that we should paint it the same colour, hope you like it. And now its time for a sand blast and some under coat. As you can see this is my son the spray painter and sand blaster, he really does a wonderful job, now i will get him to spray it, and we will bake it and see how she looks. And that is as far as we got for now, the Control Valve and the Pump have to be striped back and repainted as we didnt want the over spray to get in the tank . i will put up more photos as we continue to fettle.
Slightly divisive decision IMHO Brian, the beauty of the early Pork Pie Tilley surely is that it is all brass? the font I can understand but the frame/pump and cock..hmmm. Martin
Had the frame been soldered into the tank? Must say I’m with Martin on this one, it just looks wrong, wrong, wrong. But whatever floats your boat boys.
@Buggerlugs No doubt your son’s spray paint job is excellent however, in my opinion, the fount only should be spray painted. The early Pork Pie Tilley frame is iconically brass and the brass colour is the first thing that my eye and brain expects. However, your spray painted frame, shown here, just doesn’t do justice to the Pork Pie model. Just my opinion. Cheers Pete
Apologies Michael/Brian, the comments sound awfully harsh. You are doing some great things with your lamps and that must be commended. Keep up the good work and don't be put off by us. Martin
Thanks it's okay I understand to lamp collectors, I have committed blasphemy, but that's how I found it and I want to keep it that way, as I have other Pork Pies, yet to be finished and they will be painted gold. So I really don't mind what others say, and appreciate their points of view.
Aye, can't fault your work there, lads! ..You make a good team! ..Your enthusiasm shines through as well..
@Buggerlugs On ya mate, you do excellent work, just my opinion and doesn’t detract from your great stuff. It’s important that you do it the way you want. Cheers Pete
Well it's almost finished, I know a lot of people don't like my choice, but I love it now i only have to get a new hood cover, and polish the lower bug catcher. I hope the last photo will make everyone happy as I am.
You do? Seems they are around in Australia, a country with plenty of remote areas, hence lamps? With this lamp found in a silver livery already, did you find any (supposedly) original gold underneath? I am thinking here of Tilley perhaps made a special batch for some australian company, like with the later Rijkswaterstaat Guardsmen and SDR's sprayed in duck egg green. Just a long shot, mind. Regards, Mike
