Hi fellas, need some direction. This PP what frame fits it, i have frames from the chrome x246, storm and guardsman they appear to be too small in dimetions, see pic, is there a different frame e
Darryl, I can't answer your question but measure the distance between the studs on the pork pie and compare them to the measurements on the later 1950's X246.
I did they are out 5mm-10mm. I have had a look at another one i have and it appears that the frame may be forced and bent a little to suit, but i dont think it is general practice, im wait ing for more ideas before i do that. I have another pp but the frame legs are fully soldered in.
The porkpie tank does distort a bit. The horizontal ledge on the topside has little to restrain it - and thus it tends to crate an outward and downward slope. This means the studs do not meet the vertical legs. You often see the cage legs with forced bends to accommodate this change.
Ok, thank you for the tip, i did force it but it did not look right. But now if i heat and bend it may look like it belongs, thanks for info.
Try the cage in all four orientations to get the closet fit to all four the studs. You should just be able to ease the frame into position by hand. Tighten the screws up gradually, if one is tight back off the opposing screw and try again, it should fit with a bit of jiggling.
@Darryl Durdin As said above the pork pie X246 does tend to spread the lugs over the years, probably because the tank is heavy and the lamp is left hanging. Quite some time ago, someone here spoke of reshaping the top surface of the tank back to “original” by using a large block of wood... Tony
The pork pie frame has slightly longer legs than the guardsman frame , the guardsman frame will fit on the pork pie but the vap tube will sit a little higher in relation to the frame so the frame will not support the hood and burner correctly. I hope this info is useful. Regards Ian.
