An Optimus 1550, in relatively poor condition with heavy pitting to the tank and frame (considering getting it re-plated). I'm guessing this is a late 1970's or maybe 1980's model on account of the lever-style action of the rapid pre-heater.
If you could provide some more info it could help with dating. What is written on the control wheel and what does the label on the collar look like? This info should tie it down to at least a specific decade. This style of lever for the quick starter was introduced in 1957 and was used into the 80s.
Hi Nils, I've uploaded a couple more shots, apologies for the initial lack of detailed photos, this lamp collecting malarky is a steep learning curve. I appreciate your input.
There are no definite cut off dates for different detail changes, but my estimate would be that it is not earlier than the 70s. I'd most likely place it in the first half of the 70s, but that's just a feeling. They're a great work horse of a lantern and usually work well (except the quick starter, but that's another story). If 500cp is too much, then just use a 350cp jet and needle. That was the only difference between the 1550 and 1350 (apart from the label).
Ah, excellent information and advice there Nils, thank you. I may well keep it in its current condition if it turns out to be a good workhorse.
