Hi all Here is my last restauration a gasoline Focus lantern from after 1943 (the patent is of 1943) The lamp was in very bad state, very dusty and greasy For the instant i have not tried to run it because I have a needle problem. This long needle is broken. I must find a solution to redo one. The tank have been very hard scratched by a previous owner, and it could be cracked, I am afraid it to be leaking. I shall perhaps be obliged to treat the inside We shall see later ;-) We can find many informations here : Rasgando la Oscuridad. Lamparas de Presión: FOCUS I also need a glass with a hole because there is no other way to put the preheating alcohol nor to light the lantern
the patina should not be confused with dirt and grease. It will come back in less than a few weeks because I do not put any other product on the brass. I live by the sea, the humidity will do its job ;-)
A nice lantern Michel, congratulations. The dimpling on the cleaning needle is different. The manufacturer has gone to a lot of trouble to make it. I wonder if it was suppose to help remove carbon in the vapouriser at the same time as clearing the jet? Good luck with the rest of the fettle.
I suppose rather that the asperities all along the needle served to slow the flow of gasoline in the generator, so as to increase the vaporization. moreover, this needle is guided by a long spring which is slid into the generator, which communicates more heat to the fuel.

Hi all I go back to this restauration The main probleme was, I think, the cleaning needle problem Impossible to think find an original one in Spain We had no other solution than replace the needle by a PX type needle so we cuted the extremity of the tip (by measuring the useful length) and we have done a small brass female/female tube from a Sea Anchor needle holder tube It have been screwed and soldered on the long rod then it is easy to fit a 250 CP Petromax needle NOw I have to redo all the seals especialy around the gasoline operating rods see you later
here is the old lady running (not so old because the patent is from september 1944) I was afraid the fount to be leaking but the brass is thick the preheater is disappointing because unlike PX there is no plunger in the gasoline. This does not provide a lot of gas, and since the small nozzle seems enlarged, it lets too much air under pressure compared to gasoline. It is not very effective, the torch goes out because it is too powerful in air In addition, it depressurizes the tank too quickly heureusement, cette lampe est pourvue d'une coupelle de préchauffage ;-) next concern: I have not yet managed to drill a hole in a glass without breaking, but this lamp does not have a preheating window in the cage.
