This is my Thomas Kerosafe. Found in Australia, this one came with a generator with a pricking needle, and the hole in the cage plate to take the pricker extension.This probably dates the lantern 1920 - 1926. The Thomas MFG. @Tony Press These M1004 lanterns seem to be coming out of the wood work! I use to think they not that common, now I have second thoughts! Nice break down! This will help with mine.
Hum...that looks to be a very well made and substantial lantern indeed... The burner is a hefty looking thing..No wonder you are making a special pre-heater!...Is it cast iron or some sort of brass/bronze there, Tony? Great presentation as always!
Thanks for the comments folks. The lantern is all steel except for the generator and the air tubes. My tank had no hints of stress cracks, and was pretty rust-free on the inside. The nickel plating on the vent is ok on one side and rusted away on the opposite side. The nickel plating on the tank is good, but pocked. The steel cage appears to have not been plated or, the plating has completely disappeared. It’s a solid lump of a thing. Tony
@Tony Press Tony, I think your spot on with the dates, 1920-26. The ones without the cleaning needle came out, I think in 1916, so without a tip cleaner 1916-20, with a tip cleaner 1920-26. I think production for this model ended in 1926. Makes me want to get mine cleaned up and see if I can get them running!
@george @Mackburner has those dates in the PLC, so you and he agree. I went looking for Kerosafe advertisements in Australian newspapers but have not found any yet. Cheers Tony

There are a few documented fettles of mine here on CPL and over at CCS, but doing it live might require a Censor’s certification. That’s not quite true... I actually find the fettling process quite “zen”, and therapeutic. I’ve got to the stage where I walk away from a difficult point of a fettle, rather than persist and do something irreversible. Quite often I wake up at three in the morning thinking “...that’s how it works”, or “maybe I’ll try this”. I’m too untidy to be seen live, and too self conscious to do it myself. Cheers Tony
