Hello, If anyone owns a Coleman Northstar dual fuel lantern 2000B750 there is a recall. The recall involves model number 2000B750 and is dated October 2013 or November 2013. Seems an incorrect fuel feed was installed on these lanterns and when lit the tube can release too much fuel, possibly causing a fire and burn hazard. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall on 9 May 2014! I know thats over two years ago, but... I found the recall notice just by dumb luck. All of you may already be aware of the recall but it doesn't hurt to say it again.
Just seen about 18 Northstar lanterns and 30 bits of associated paraphernalia on E bay tonight you used to see only a few but see more nowadays.... temped ...but my trusty kero Bialaddin 315 just pumps the lumens out with ease and is so easy to fettle ..... just saying ...
It is possible to convert a North Star to kero, AND you can use regular mantles if you know what to do... that's the only reason I'd get one.
@ColinG Well, Colin, like they say: Whatever floats your boat! I don't like doing conversions on any lantern. Just my two cents worth...
@george I understand wanting to keep lanterns as original as possible, but here in the UK it would probably be cheaper to use Scotch as a fuel and even the alternatives like brake cleaner and panel wipe are still expensive! Also I've usually got 1800L of kero in the central heating tank!
I see your point, the kero is cheaper than probably Coleman or some other camp fuel. That fuel ain't cheap here either!
Hey @ColinG, scotch for fuel, now that’s an idea. Kaye and I, when we visit you in Bonny Scotland, will gladly help you refuel you lanterns. I presume the we’ll need to fuel ourselves the same. Happy refueling Pete
Oh and @george I always adapt the lanterns in such a way that they can be returned to their original state if need be - I wouldn't like to make them permanently different.
@ColinG Good man, Colin! At least a future owner will have the option to return to the original set up!
It's the same when I have to respray a lantern. If there's any original paint on the bottom of the fount I leave it there for future owners to see.
