If the goal is to strip the nickel in advance of replating, I'd just let the plating house do it...they regularly strip old nickel before re-plating.
Hi @Cliff Ward Since I have another brass 930 with a stress cracked tank I wish to replace it with this, hopefully, succesful unplated one.
As an old hand at restoring nickel plating on vintage motorcycles, I know of no way of safely removing it other than at a plater's shop. Abrasion will be too agressive and lead to a damaged tank.
If you can still find a small Privately run Plating business , i had a tank stripped and polished for £10 this way....
