Tilley TL10

Living in the USA Tilley lanterns are hard to come by especially lamps and this time I had the opportunity to buy a TL10 (per my research here in the forum) and came with a pyrex globe and two burner galleries. One of the galleries is damaged and I don’t think they sell the part damaged separately.

I need to order some washers from the for money shot. Tried to buy a hollow punch set but they are really expensive, almost $300 for a decent quality one and don’t want to expend that kind of money right now.
Also the damaged gallery has different nuts than the other. Maybe they are from different period.

Your lamp is pre- or early-WWII, as it carries the Registered design number on the rim. The fluted column (handle) is 1938+; the control cock is 1940+.

When you fettle it, measure how deep the area is in the column that receives the control cock, as pre-1940 that would be deeper than post-1940.

As a TL10 it would have had a Tilley shade and no globe.

As a TL11 it would have had a Tilley globe No. 182.

The burner on the extra gallery you have is wrecked. It could be repaired with a new burner. I have a couple with those hex nuts.

Thanks for the info @Tony Press, the area where the control cock attaches to the column is 42.8 mm. I’ll order a 182 globe because shades are too expensive and a repop will cost me almost $110 shipped from Korea

 

The base camp has a reproduction tear drop Tilley 182 globe (pre war shape) as well as the onion shaped 182 globe.

Moncrieff glass (UK) has reproduction Tilley shades.

I stand corrected. If the worn out burner was original to the lamp, that would put it soon after the batwing burner/gallery, so mid-1930s.

Then with the deep hole that takes the XN cock, that would put the lamp mid-1930s to 1940 or thereabouts (I think).

Those hex nuts on the burner and the globe screws would fit in just right too Tony.

 

Thanks for the info @Anthony and @Tony Press I suppose to get this lamp closer to the manufacturer dates I have to add a XN cock so this would be even harder than I was supposed

 

Well finally cleaned and installed a Tilley 182 globe and for the washers I haven’t placed my order yet but I’ve added another Tilley TL106 to the herd.
Here is at my daughter’s room with my Leacock 107 and a 285 (my daughter birthday lantern)

 

It looks lovely @Pancholoco1911, especially with that Coleman in the picture.

 

Its a beauty. Congrats on a hard to find lamp. I am drooling here.
