I have a few questions specific to the Optimus 930 that I have, but also generic enough to help me understand these devices.

The 930 nozzle is ceramic and threads into the metal gas chamber. However, the threads are quite loose and I can’t get a tight fit. I don’t want to force it as I expect the ceramic is fragile and I could damage a thread or crack the nozzle which would be bad.

My question is, should I be worried about the gas seal at this location? I don’t get a gas smell and the lamp burns brightly, so I expect the gas/air mixture is already at a low pressure where it enters the mantle. Or should I consider using a washer or some other high-temperature sealant on the threads?

While I’m asking some questions for the knowledgeable members of the forum, the 930 is well-known as a hot running lamp. My only other reference are a couple of Colemans, and these run cool. Is this just a design feature of the 930? I’m not at a point in my journey where I’m ready to strip the 930 to discover the mechanism, but looking at the exploded diagram of spare parts, it looks like the heat transfers down the vaporizer into the tank body? How does the system differ in other lamps?

    Thanks, Max

    1. The loose nozzle. If you place a short length of mantle tie string around the thread of the nozzle prior to fitting it. You will have to gauge the about to be used yourself by trial and error as nearly every burner is different.

    2. As regards the 930, my knowledge is zero if it isn't Petromax

Let us know how you get on.

Good one. A dot of exhaust mounting paste at the very last thread works for me.
    Regards Matti

A few turns of mantle thread and the nozzle seated smooth and tight. A great tip

Tá fáilte romhat! The string approach is a reversible fix with zero clean up with zero cost. My Bundeswehr 500HK had the same issue years ago and no problem since.
