Hi guys , New to the site so be gentle. A couple of years ago I was gifted a x 246 , straight cage no date or branding on the fount . So I’m dating it 1955 to 1960 . Reminded me of a lamp we had as a kid so decided to get it going and get a new hood . Also brought a later model but Just don’t feel the way about the second one . Decided to make a brother for the other one so brought a second polished brass tank around the same period with the intention of making one from parts brought on eBay etc . I don’t have the center nut that holds the vaporiser . Any body know what it’s called and where I can get one

You have got me started now . It would be nice to make it original if you know what I mean . I’ll try and get the bits from the same model . What type of vaporiser should go with this fount . I’m guessing it will be brass regards David
@Corkey It would be a standard Tilley 606 vapouriser. If you find NOS, then boxes marked Hendon are from the period, but any Tilley 606 is fine because it’s a disposable fitting. Cheers Tony

Watch out for the fettling bug. You start with one old lamp from the charity shop or a wreck you salvage from a skip as a fun project and 2 years on you end up with 50 of them, 20 of which in your kitchen and bathroom... Within 6 to 9 months you’ll know all models produced by Tilley between 1942 and 1964...you’ll get sudden visions of NVR valves and control cocks whilst you’re sitting at the desk at work... Having said that, it’s great to see more and more people finding old lamps and getting interested in them. So many are being saved from the skip and restored. It’s a global phenomenon, as the membership of this forum testifies.
