@eiremax Lovely item indeed. I use something similar, but of French manufacture and a handy 1-litre capacity, to fill paraffin pressure stoves.
Hi John @presscall , I have the very same one but with a content of about 3 liters. Oh, and mine comes with a loverly cork as stopper..... (I think I found somewhere these are French, but I'm not sure. Can't remember where I read that )
Certainly French, Wim. A La Ménagère, a large department store in Paris (1863-1899) that sold custom copper cookware - and evidently this pouring can, perhaps for olive oil. ‘A La Ménagère’ suggests the target audience (La Ménagère - the Housewife) back then.
Here's some Coleman filling cans. Both about 4.5L and neither as stylish as the examples above! This one is pretty common with the embossed Coleman wording. Many are found with this additional wording stencilled on the side: It reads: --WARNING-- CONTENTS DANGEROUS SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO FIRE OR FLAME OR USED FOR CLEANING PURPOSES IN ANY BUILDING This is my favourite, the "Coleman Automatic Safety Filling Can". My example was missing the filler cap, but still had the protective cover over the spout. Mike.
Now now Wim, I’m sure that many here would be quite interested in seeing such a collection. I mean there must be much more boring things that people collect. Each to his (or her) own.
Sorry to disappoint. I was going to post a picture of a box full of alcohol bottles and get all excited about opening it but it had already been done.
At one time I 'collected' the names of Eddie Stobart trucks. I suppose that's the modern-day equivalent of being a train spotter. Maybe Santa will bring me this for Christmas... Eddie Stobart Truck Spotters Name Guide Book List Updated Nov 2020 & Free Gift | eBay
Thanks Eiremax. I figured any site with 16 pages of mantle packet images might be OK with some gas can pics... That Eddie Stobart Truck book is hardcore! It is people that are that passionate about their interests that fascinate. Mike.
... I remember getting an 'I Spy Car Registrations/ Number Plate' booklet so I could fill in the mind-numbing hours in the back of Mum an Dad's Cortina being driven down to Luton (Airport.. age 8) ..

David, Sure! Take advantage, man. That's a great hobby. It's like the oldest "profession" in the world, "You got it, you sell it, and you still got it!! I know, keep it up and you're going to lose your CPL membership! I'M SORRY...
