Moin, There was growth again ... Just what exactly do I have here? The lamp was supposed to be used as a parts supplier for my Petromax / Aida Mix ... But as so often, things turn out differently than expected. The old Petromax unfortunately (?) Not a Petromax at all but from Solex. I got the lamp without any details, ("We still have such an old Petromax, from our grandpa, from the front crawl ...") In the clear awareness that the lamp is not perfect and not complete ("Our grandpa even improved it, it now runs on electricity!") Purchased as a spare part donor. ("It hung with Grandpa in the fireplace room for at least 40 years, and he even painted it with gold bronze"! " Facts have already become clear after washing with thinner. Carrying frame has repairable rust damage, chrome-plated steel tank, roughly sanded and dented in various places Articulated carburetor with wrong handwheel Hood defective and with retrofitted cable duct, The upper part of the carburetor and the burner head are completely missing. Now I would like some advice from you: Is it worth doing the thing because it's rare or very old, or is it nothing special and it is better to throw it into the E-bay as a spare part dispenser?
Solex are Italian lamps made in Milan. In general Solex are very much in the style of Petromax but I don't know how compatible the parts are. This one looks like a model 252 300cp. Not really rare but not common either so it is probably worth trying to complete with Petromax parts. There are some examples in the gallery. SOLEX 252 , 300 Candele ::Neil::
How are you going to repair the hood? Replace it with one from the Petromax? I guess the rest of the Solex are replaceable with donor parts from the Petromax or clones. Of course, if you can find the original replacement parts, all the better.
Moin, The decision has been made for me, the lamp is going to E-Bay as a spare part dispenser. Or is anyone interested in it? My Vapalux is the first lamp to be inviolable, but apart from that I will stay with two manufacturers, Petromax and Hasag. Thanks for your tips and information!
