This is what I guess is an early example of the 1092. I believe the all chrome top was how they were when introduced then getting the red enamell top sometime later. A a rough guess, this one would be from between 1957 and 1960.
It's a good looking lantern @Nils Stephenson ! For me, as an Optimus fanatic, especially! How do you interpret 350-500 CP marking? Is it that one can mount 500 CP mantle and expect it to, indeed, give such output? I'm curious because such lantern is on its way to me.
If I understand correctly, you use a 500 cp mantle. Low pressure for around 350 cp., high pressure for 500 cp.
I have wondered about that myself. They come standard with a 350cp jet, so I assume they mean it is possible to fit a 500cp jet, needle and mantle with no other modifications.
I have checked the catalogues I have and the jets for the 1092 and 1094 have different part numbers, so I would say that they are 350cp for the 1092 and 500cp for the 1094. There is no mention of being able to change jets on the 1092, so no explanation for the label there.
I have just finished fettling my 1092. Jet was worn so I used Optimus’ 500CP jet and 500CP mantle. Lantern works fine, fenomenal light output. Or maybe I have 1094 then? Riveted name plate on my lantern has lost text. Is there any way to distinguish 1094 from 1092?
The 1094 has the quick start torch added. That is basically the difference between the 1092 and 1094. Usually the 1092 was 350CP and the 1094 was 500CP.
