Well, this little beauty has not been cleaned by me in any way - this is the condition I purchased it in. However, I’ve spent all afternoon trying to get it running and I’ve loved every minute of it!! Stripped it down entirely to unblock the fuel pick up and get the pin moving again. Also removed and soaked the check valve in acetone to get it doing what it should. New generator and two little peerless 2c-hg’s and it’s burning nicely. (I actually put the mantles on and burned them off before testing it -rookie mistake- but managed to fettle it without destroying them!) I have a funny feeling this won’t be my first and last twin mantle Coleman...
Great, the 220/228 series is one of the best Coleman turned out. A very nice, reliable lantern. This is a fine example you have here.
Very nice lantern. The 220E's are very hard to find in Australia and the big hat 228E even more so - so you have done well, particularly re lanterns condition.
I bought this one off the evil bay @Tony Press . It was actually listed twice, I passed on it the first time as it got too expensive but it was re-listed for some reason (buyer didn’t pay I think) and I got lucky and snapped it up for $50 Australian. Postage from the US can be expensive as you know but it was also pretty reasonable so all up a nice find. Came with the box and manual as well. I avoid eBay now due to a sudden rise in prices, but every now and again a lucky find can be had. Not from Canada however, so many great lanterns but extortionate postage!
That's a good looking lantern and with the wide brim ... well, I'm sold on it. It looks virtually new!
