Hi Folks, Here are a couple of pics of the latest Bialaddin 300X that I have saved from the scrap skip. As usual, the top cap was missing, so as before, made a replacement from the bottom of another scrap tank; this time from a Burmos 2 pint stove. It has worked out fine and I am very happy with its performance. These were really well made stoves. Steve.
That's a lovely lamp there Shed Man. I especially like the new top cap, and the honest patina of the ventilator. Have you tried polising the patina down to a shinier brass finish? I've often wondered if its possible?
Yes you can, but it is a waste of time if you want to use the lamp. As soon as you light it and burn for even a short time, the hood goes back to the dark beautiful patina that you see. Once a tank is polished I wash it very well with non-detergent soap, and then dry it quickly. Then I immediatly polish with a good natural wax. This I think has a similar effect to clear lacquer and protects the brass surface until the natural patina builds up again. I am no expert; just enjoy fettling! Steve.
That's very nice. I've got one in the garage waiting for me to get it going and maybe give a shiny finish but just trying to work out the bets way of removing the old paint and getting it to shine. You've done a lovely job with yours
Thanks. I used ordinary paint stripper, washed off and then very fine 0000 grade wire wool and Autosol for final polish, then a good wax polish.
Hi Steve very nice fettle indeed you did a brilliant job making the burner hood cap from the scrapped Burmos tank, the 300Sx is a susper lantern in looks quality and performance
