Got an Optimus 200P from Germany but lots of spares looks bad quality. The logo on it's fount marked as " BY LICENCE OF OPTIMUS", not "MADE IN SWEDEN" as mostly OPTIMUS 200 series. Does anyone know where this lantern is produced? I suspect it is Made in China but I can’t find any information to support my suspection. Thanks all, Peter.
My guess is that it is made by Opico in Iran. They made some Optimus products under licence in the 1970s.
Thanks for let me know the information. I only know it was produced in China and Pakistan, but never known that Iran was ever licenced to produce it.
Some Optimus have nameplates with Arabic inscriptions on them in addition to the usual English. These, I believe, were made in one of the middle-eastern countries(Iran for example) although some do turn up in Indonesia once in while. There was a thread awhile bacķ by one of our members here regarding the Opico and Optimus' involment in Iran.
I have never heard of Optimus being produced in Pakistan. Do you have any information about that? The Swedish made 300 and 500 cp models after the late 1950s all had Arabic writing on the label. Obviously the middle east was a big market for them at the time, so it was easier to have a standard label for all the lamps. The only places I have ever heard of Optimus being produced outside of Sweden is Iran, Zimbabwe and China.
I once owned an Optimus 1551 briefly and it's a 500 cp lamp. But according to another discussion as below, 1551 was mentioned as a product made in China. I am agree with this statement, because many parts of materials and quality do not seem to be different from the Anchor made in China. Latest acquisition Optimus 1551.
