It was supposed to be a mild April evening when I’d organised for a mate to come around to sit by the fire pit. However the fire pit was full of snow so it was just a quick light up in the end, though we did still manage to heat the hot dogs! Coleman 327, 249 and Optimus 930 in action. Interestingly, I finally got around to swapping the mantle on the 930 today. It was using an Optimus mantle which was rather underwhelming, but switched to a Coleman 1111 tonight and it was so much brighter and ran really well! Is there any issue with burning too large a mantle in a lantern or is it ok as long as it performs well? It looked too big until it burnt off but now looks ok after shrinkage.
As long as the flame from the burner nozzle is big enough to fully incandesce the mantle, there's no problem. The lantern is burning the same amount of fuel, get the maximum amount of light from it.
Aye, it snowed here this evening as well. It took a hell of a lot of will-power but somehow I managed to resist the temptation to go out in it to heat up my own supper on a Bialaddin Bowlfire...
