It is with a great deal of sadness that I convey the news that Bob Bauer, known here at CPL as Lamp Doctor, has passed away after a long battle with leukaemia. Bob has been a member of Classic Pressure Lamps since 2013, and he greatly enjoyed being on CPL, and being in the company of other lampers. He was also a member of Classic Camp Stoves and the Coleman Collectors Forum. He hasn’t been posting much over the last while as he’s fought his battle, but he checked in from time to time, and kept an eye on what has happening in the pressure lamp world. We will sadly note his absence from our lamp gathering this coming weekend. He was hoping to join us: he said it would be his “last hurrah”. Here are some photos of Bob at previous lamp gatherings at Staffordshire Reef (Victoria, Australia). Bob (left) and Bernie Holmes ponder Bob’s hollow wire hanging lamp (a Gloria). Bob and Anthony putting the Blanchard 1217 together. I know that look! I’ll miss it (Martin Roberts in the back). [Note: You can find Bob’s CPL posts through @Lamp Doctor . The link @Lamp_Doctor is disabled] Vale Bob! Tony
Very sad news, My condolences to his family and friends. Leukemia is a bad beast to fight, my father passed away one year ago for the same reason and I know how hard is for passionate and active persons like bob to see their body and life slowly going to the end. I hope he didn’t had any bad sufferance and that he passed away enjoying his memories and family till the last second of his life. Nicola
I'm much saddened to hear this, Tony, but thanks for letting us know. Thanks also for the pictures of Bob and the other lampies - it's good to be able to put faces to names e.g. Anthony, who looked nothing at all like the image of him I had in my head!
Very sad news indeed - thanks for posting this Tony. My condolences to his family.... I won't be at the meet this weekend but will light some lanterns for Bob. I will miss our catch up at the swap meets and " chewing the fat" with him. I was lucky to see his collection when I drove to see/treat his sick Eclectus parrot some years ago....I will miss you buddy. I called him a few months ago to check up on him and he still sounded positive but he broached a few topics that all may not be OK.... I am sorry now that I did not call him several weeks ago when I thought of it..............he was a true lantern/GPA/Tilley man at heart.
Rest In Peace Bob, He fueled my passion for Tilley products from 14000 km away; I will miss our emails. There will never be another like Bob.
@Tony Press Very sad news Tony, but good of you to convey it. You say Bob was a CCS member too. Did he post there and under what username? John
John He did post at CCS under the handle Lamp_Doctor (note the underscore), but not very much. Tony @presscall
It would seem a bright light in our small but international world has gone out - but will not be forgotten. His family and friends are in my thoughts. Chris
