Just wondered what is the best paint to coat rusty bail handles and other metal-work with, once you've got the worst of the rust off?
    Cheers

I mostly use Hammerite Smooth because it deals with any residual rust and is a pretty good gloss finish. You can stove it on as well in an oven for maybe 20 minutes at 200c. ::Neil::

Thanks Neil, I'll try that in the oven. Is it best to wait until the paint's dry first?

You want it touch dry and then bung it in the heat. Let it air cool and you get a hard gloss cure around four days faster than waiting for the damn stuff to dry at room temp. It will cure at 160c for half an hour but being an impatient sort of guy I prefer 20 mins at 200. I only use the lower temp for stuff with solder in it. ::Neil::

Really good result at 200 C, looks pretty good as well bearing in mind how pitted the bail handle was.
