I’m a big fan of these little 242Bs so very pleased to have one with a shade/reflector!

Colour is a perfect match so I’m assuming this was supplied by Coleman even though it doesn’t appear to be marked Coleman anywhere.

Dated C 39, unsure how this came to have what looks like an early 242 bail?!

Currently stripping it down and it will need a bit of work, but that’s the fun part!

Cleaning lever is extremely tight, even when loosening the cleaning lever plug thingy... not sure how to rectify that :-k.

No doubt it will loosen up when warm - once finally ready to fire up.

Looks good! I like those shades. Got a Tilley one and a couple of different colours for my Vapalux lamps.

    Looks like a Canadian model.

Quite nice with the shade. I have a few older 242Bs and the bail on those don't look like yours. What period do you think the bail belongs to? Mine are all straighter in the sides with the final curve at the ventilator. The one in this photo is more curved towards the handle end and is a bit different as you say.

Still will be a lovely lantern when you have finished fettling it.

    Good luck.

Hi Iain, yes it’s Canadian. It very much looks like the bail off a 242, 1932-1934

Can't believe it I recently got a C 39 Canadian 242b as well. Works great just had to stick some new packing in the valve wheel and a general clean out. You've definitely got the earlier bail. Love the shade!

Top find @Buckaroo especially with the shade that looks to be in excellent nick.
    Enjoy the fettle.
