Hi all, thought I'd post my latest battle, an Aussie Aladdin 1A. I found this one minus the hood in a skip bin years ago and I haven't done anything with it until recently when I bought a newer one in what appeared to be really good shape and an old had it one that was hanging outside as a display. Anyway none had pricker needles so I just cut the pricker rod of a spare coleman generator to size and stuck it in the Aladdin rod, and it works perfectly! The new good looking one had a leak around the valve assembly, so I dragged this one out and discovered the new valve won't clock properly on the old tank, and also the new generator was above 1.5mm shorter than the old ones. So new pump leather new cap rubber new pip in the nrv, using the new burner cage and hood it's a runner after a few false starts. Couple of questions, what's the x for on the bottom, and is there supposed to be packing/washer in the pricker assembly? Cheers original cage, I used the newer one as this one's got rusted tabs to hold the vent plus the newer one has the removable centre piece for easy disassembly pricker needle the newer tank with leak around the top. At first I thought it was coming from the threads hence the white permatex stuff
@Brian Reynolds These are good lanterns, but sometime suffer from stress cracked tanks. It's good to see yours up and running. I have no idea what the X is bit it's definitely aftermarket. Hi Tony, I meant on the diagram inside the A50 the A55 plumbago packing, sounds like something I suffer from haha. Great diagram that answers my question thanks. I'm sure I've seen that x before on another pic I've seen somewhere, but with no explanation. I'll have a look through the reference gallery. Cheers
I have often wondered about the 'X' also. Just went through my Aladdin 1A's with green paint. Out of the nine (9) lanterns seven (7) have a cross. Most of the crosses are black or green, one is red. I have never seen a 'X' on the plated tanks. I don't know their significance. Brian, your lantern looks good.
@ROBBO55 thanks, I like it a lot. Aside from my handi kero pet I haven't got much experience outside of colemans. I've read some bad stories about them but it's got no stress cracks and once I finally got it going it's great. Seems like you can pump it till the cows come home without feeling a great deal of resistance on the pump, but it keeps going for hours on end. I'm glad I'm not the only one with an x, I'm sure I've seen pics of others before. Interesting they have different coloured ones, must have some significance. Cheers
