Coleman had two models produced under licence in Australia. The 242B and the 249. To the best of my knowledge, they were made between the late 1940s and about 1960. This lantern is from February 1952 and is the reason I started collecting lamps. It has been on many camping trips before I even realised other lanterns existed.
I can fully understand that it was this little lantern that made you start with the collecting. I have the US-made 242B, and it is one of my favourite lanterns. It's handy, has good proportions and is over all good looking with that bulgy glass and nice plating. And of course; it does its job very well!
gidday Nils 242b is the first lamp I also started out with, it still runs very well, & got me started on my journey with lamps & stoves. I see plenty of 242b around here in Australia when at swap meets etc
