Hi I am looking for some advice regarding the pump valve in the picture. Once I removed it I noticed a small crack starting at the bottom slot and extending diagonally upwards for around 5mm. I am wondering if I should replace the valve or is there the possibility it might be ok to re-use. Thanks in advance for any guidance. Stuart
It looks like it must have cracked when someone tried using a screwdriver to undo the NRV. An example of why using an old drill chuck is advisable. If it is still solidly staying together, there is no reason for not using it. When in use it is only an axial force on the base of the NRV and not much of that anyway.
Thanks Nils, it does seem fairly stable although the rubber pip is fairly well stuck inside so I’ll have to see if I can remove it without doing any more damage
I have soldered the crack on some NRV’s with good result. But using a drill chuck is much better. Opens them without damaging it. Regards Matti
Thanks Matti. I am still very new to this so my knowledge of and ability to solder is limited although I have been watching tutorials as it seems at some point I will need to learn this skill. This crack seems stable so I think it will be ok and I shall practice soldering on some scrap pieces. And good advice from yourself and Nils about the drill chuck. Regards Stuart
