I have just purchased a x246 from ebay, it looks in poor condition. The tank has no markings except for a gold sticker on the base, and a Made in England stamp. On the sticker there is a number 46. The fame is the newer model than the loop frame. Would anyone know the year of manufacture ?

Lamps with decals were not date stamped. From your description I guess it will be about 1954 to 1956. We may have a better idea if you post a picture for us please. ::Neil::

Photo's of the unmarked x246. Also one of the handle supports has broken away from the frame. Is the normal fix to braze it back to the frame, or is there another process? ](*,)

Hello, the dates which Neil has given are correct.

Tilley started to date stamp their products in 1957.

That frame is made from steel, so it should be repairable.

If you post a clear photo or two of the damage, then there are skilled metal workers on this website who can advise you.

You should be able to restore that lantern to working order and because it's a pre 1957 model the build quality is better.

For new washers etcetera, check out the link below, Jeff.

I think they were originally spot welded but you can either braze or silver solder it back. Five minute job to wire brush clean and then flux and solder. Well maybe ten? ::Neil::
